Penn Yan played a close game for the first half and then took off in the second half, defeating CA 9-5. Meanwhile, Penfield took Orchard Park 14-4 and R-H edged out Greece Lightning 4-3. Batavia used even scoring in their 10-7 win over UPrep.

# 1285  All Greater Rochester 2017

The Rochester Democrat and Chronicle announced their 2017 All-Greater Rochester Lacrosse team today. The list features the top sixteen players and a number of honorable mentions were led by Canandaigua senior Attackman, Devin Andrews who was named "Player of the Year". Andrews, who was also a US Lacrosse All-American, scored 72 goals and 47 assists this year. The SportsFive Offensive Player of the Year plans to study and play at Stony Brook next year.

Section V lacrosse lost a team during the season (UPrep) to low numbers and injuries so the Section ended the season with thirty-six team. The session ended with 955 Varsity boys playing.

The All Star list is out recognizing the Monroe County League players for the 2017 season. Senior attackman Brett Randall (Brighton), senior attackman Devin Andrews (Canandaigua) and junior goalie Chayse Ierlan (Victor) were named US Lacrosse All Americans from Monroe County.

Victor won their fourth consecutive (and sixth overall) Section Five Title tonight with a 13-4 win over Canandaigua.  The Blue Devils have reached the finals five straight times, with their loss four years ago against Canandaigua in overtime 11-10 (HERE).  Tonight, the Blue Devils scored the first five goals and continued to hold at minimum a four goal lead the remainder of the game.

The All Tournament Teams for 2017 were announced at each final. MVPs for A and C were Colby Barker (Pittsford) and James Blazey (Pal-Mac). In the Class B, the award went to Andrew Russell (Victor) and in the class D it went to Connor Finger (Penn Yan).

The head Coaches of Section Five meet last week to listen to the presentations of thirty players who had been nominated for All-American and All-Academic awards. The awards, sponsored by US Lacrosse, identify some of the best players from each area around the country. Each of the thirty-six coaches in the section has a vote on each of the awards.

May 27, 2017 - Third seeded Canandaigua scored the first three goals of the game and never trailed in their 16-8 win over tenth seeded Churchville-Chili.  After defeating the seventh (Ath/Ody) and second (Thomas) seeds, the Saints fell to the Braves.  Churchville-Chili kept the game close for a half, before Canandaigua held them scoreless in the third quarter and extending their lead to 12-5.

Canandaigua attackman Devin Andrews scored 7g-2a for the Braves (11-4) when they beat Penfield (6-7) at home tonight. Joe post was 21-26 at the draw and added 11 ground balls for CA. Geneva (8-4) held Penn Yan (6-7) scoreless in the second half in their 5-1 victory this afternoon. Geneva goalie Jacob Drennen recorded 24 saves for an amazing 96% while Sam Miller led the offense with 1g-3a.

DAY IN REVIEW: Canandaigua saw four lead changes but managed to win their game with Brother Rice from Michigan (5-3). Devin Andrews (2g-1a) scored the winning goal with 4:09 left in regulation. Mark Belles scored 3g and Mitch Pfeiffer added 1g-2a for the Braves (6-2). Tim Rice made 10s (71%) and Brandon Moore recorded 6s (67%) for CA.

Fifty seconds made the difference and allowed Victor to continue its winning streak to fifty. Connor Kennan scored with an assist from Sam Lambert to give Victor a 5-4 win at home this morning. Although the Blue Devils took an early lead, scoring the first three goals, Loyola Academy returned to tie the game at 4-4 in the third quarter. Blue Devil goalie, Chayse Ierlan recorded eleven saves (73%).

Irondequoit took a four goal lead twice in the second quarter and held off the late advance by Hilton to defeat the Cadets 8-7. Hilton scored the final three goals of the game and held the Eagles scoreless for the final 16:42.

Of the dozen games played today, three teams held on to their undefeated season with wins today. Spencerport took their record to 5-0 with their win over Eastridge who played a close half (8-6). Jonathan Agness led the Rangers with 3g-6a. Andrew Doktor recorded 4g for the Lancers. Note: Victor (4-0) is also undefeated.

Colby Barker scored back to back goals to end the game and give Pittsford the comeback 10-9 win over Canandaigua.  The Braves scored the opening three goals and led for nearly the entire game.  Barker scored the tying goal with 8:58 remaining, but took their first lead of the game with 0:14 remaining on the clock.  Barker finished the game with 3g-1a.

Churchville-Chili remained undefeated with an 11-8 win over Canandaigua. The Saints have faced the Braves seven times in the last five years and this is only their second win. The game was a close contest with the lead changing hands four times and the game tied at 1,2,3,5 and 6. A key factor in the game was man-up opportunities.

Thirty-one states will be represented as just over 1,700 middle and high school boys and girls have been named Brine National All-Americans and will compete in games at the 2015 Brine National Lacrosse Classic from June 29-July 2 at the River City Sportsplex in Richmond, Virginia.

Penfield took the lead with 5:48 remaining in the first quarter and never trailed again in their 11-9 win over Canandaigua. Although the Braves opened the scoring, Penfield scored the next four goals to lead 4-1 after the first quarter. Canandaigua moved within a single goal twice, but never re-tied the game. This is the first time that Penfield has defeated Canandaigua since 2012.

Thomas never led for a single second in their 9-8 overtime win over Canandaigua. Scoring when it was most important, they took their only lead with a sudden victory goal from Travis Ford with 2:11 left in the first overtime period. The Titans scored six of the last seven goals. Trevor and Travis Ford were major players in the contest with Travis scoring 2g (including the game winner) and Trevor scoring 5g.

The Hamburg Bulldogs need overtime to guarantee their undefeated season (16-0), the only team in Section VI to have a perfect season. Canandaigua, who trailed 6-3 at the half were inspired in the second half and outscored the bulldogs with the same numbers (6-3) to force overtime.

# 442  Semi: Canandaigua Over C-C in OT

Canandaigua fought back from a 10-5 deficit at the end of the third quarter to force overtime and then won 12-11 over previously undefeated Churchville-Chili. The Braves never led and only had the game tied twice (1-1 and 11-11). They scored when it mattered, in sudden death overtime, to secure the win. The Saints took control of the game for three quarters before the Braves fought back in the fourth. As the Braves got closer and closer to a tie game, they became more amped up and the Saints had more trouble staying in the lead.

This is the sixth year for the Section Five All-Section Team. It is an effort by the Lacrosse Committee and the coaches of Section Five to identify some of the top players among the over 1,100 varsity players in the section this year. Nominations for the lists came from Head coaches, administrators and SportsFive personnel. This year 15 players were selected for the first team, 13 players for second team and this year, 12 players on the third team. Our six All Americans automatically make the first team. All players on this list must first be named to their first team All-League teams or be from Independent teams.

# 161  Webster Thomas Wins in Class B

Top seeded Penn Yan scored nearly all their goals in a set of two runs to defeat third seeded Aquinas 9-7. The Little Irish played the first half extremely well and led 3-0 and 4-1 before the Mustangs began to get their feet under them.
